The client's name has been changed.

Let's call the client Oleg. There were two independent locks on the front door. First one started working harder. After some time, problems appeared with the second one.

Oleg decided:

“Such a coincidence cannot exist.”

But maybe.

Why two mechanisms can wear out in parallel

If they:

  • installed simultaneously;
  • equally intensively used;
  • work in one door,

they are in similar conditions.

A common reason is also possible

For example:

  • the door sank;
  • the box has moved;
  • the bolts of both locks began to work under load.

Then it seems that two mechanisms are breaking at the same time, although the problem begins with the geometry of the door.

Do you need to change locks every five years?

No. This is exactly the tough advice in the original article, but there is no universal five-year period for all locks. The period depends on:

  • designs;
  • quality;
  • number of cycles;
  • operating conditions.

When to think about a planned replacement

If the mechanism:

  • eats regularly;
  • has pronounced wear;
  • has already been repaired several times.
Two locks jamming at the same time sometimes indicate not an incredible coincidence, but a common cause.
