Why an incorrect installation of a new lock can be worse than an old, working one

The client's name has been changed.
Let's call the client Maxim. He decided to independently replace the old lock with a more modern model. The new mechanism looked much better. But after installation the door started:
- harder to close;
- require additional effort;
- sometimes do not accept the second turn of the key.
A question has arisen:
“Since the lock is new, does that mean it’s definitely not the problem?”
Not necessarily. The quality of the installation is no less important than the quality of the mechanism itself. The original professional replacement material explicitly warns that improper installation can result in damage and subsequent malfunction.
What should match after installation
Correct interaction is important:
- lock body;
- cylinder;
- crossbars;
- response part;
- accessories;
- door leaf.
If the elements are installed offset, even a new mechanism will work under load.
Why does the lock need to be checked several times?
In the material provided, the replacement process ends with a mandatory check and adjustment of the installed mechanism. Useful to check:
- work with the door open;
- work with the door closed;
- all keys;
- full locking cycle.
The new mechanism should not require “development by force”
Sometimes the client is told:
“It’s new, it’ll get used to it later.”
Minor features are possible, but pronounced jamming should not automatically be considered normal. If the mechanism has to be forced regularly, it is better to check the installation.
