Let's call the client Sergei. He noticed fresh damage near the keyhole. The lock was still opening. My first thought was:
“If the key works, then nothing is damaged.”
But external interference can affect not only the cylinder itself.
What else is included in the system
Worth checking:
- outer lining;
- cylinder mounting;
- pen;
- lock body;
- door position;
- fasteners;
- response part.
Sometimes the cylinder continues to operate but the safety hardware is already damaged or loose.
Why can't scratches be automatically considered a hacking attempt?
Traces may be household marks. For example:
- bunch of keys;
- incorrect key hit;
- surface wear.
Therefore, a calm assessment is needed first.
When to pay more attention
If at the same time: *fasteners appear damaged.
- the cylinder began to move;
- the key operation has changed;
- the fittings are deformed;
- deep fresh tracks appeared;
What to do before repair
Take photos of everything in its original form. Not just a close-up of the keyhole, but the entire door. If there are serious reasons to suspect foul play, the issue may go beyond normal repairs.
