Let's call the client Alexander. He wanted to replace the lock and asked the most common question:
“Which lock is the most secure?”
There is no one universal answer. Safety depends not only on the type of mechanism, but also on the entire door system.
Why you can’t compare locks only by type name
Cylinder, lever and electronic systems have many quality options. A cheap cylinder and a high-quality cylinder are completely different products. The same applies to lever and electronic solutions.
What is more important than the type itself
Worth evaluating:
- quality of the mechanism;
- cylinder protection;
- fittings;
- installation;
- door strength;
- compatibility of all elements.
Why two good locks are not always better than one
The number of mechanisms in itself does not guarantee anything. If the second lock:
- installed incorrectly;
- weak;
- creates door design problems,
it won't necessarily improve protection significantly. Sometimes one well-installed set is better than several random mechanisms.
Is an electronic lock automatically safer?
No. It can provide convenient access control features, but also requires:
- high-quality execution;
- correct installation;
- thoughtful backup access;
- services.
What is the best thing to do before buying
Show the door to the specialist and formulate the task:
- apartment;
- private house;
- office;
- rental property;
- premises with a large number of users.
