“You have a recessed lock.”

How does a mortise lock work?
Such a mechanism is located inside the metal structure of the door and is fixed to the provided internal mounting part. The main difference for the owner is the method of installation and maintenance.
What are the advantages
With a properly designed door, the following are possible:
- rigid fastening;
- good integration with the canvas;
- fewer external mounting elements.
What is the main disadvantage
Maintenance or replacement sometimes requires partial disassembly of the inside of the door. That is, a simple operation with a conventional mortise lock may turn out to be more labor-intensive.
What about multi-point locking
Some systems may be associated with additional crossbars. But more locking points does not automatically mean a better door. Quality is important:
- drive;
- installation;
- the design itself.
Is it possible to replace a mortise lock with a regular one?
Sometimes yes, but it all depends on the existing door design. Can't answer without inspection.
